jewish marriage and weddings

What is the role of religions in marriage?
What’s the difference between getting married in a courthouse versus a church? Do you have the same rights etc… I’ve been looking up info about different weddings jewish, catholic etc and there’s a lot of rules and regulations and yet you can get the same piece of paper in a courthouse.
Whether you marry in a Church by a Priest, or in someones backyard by a Justice of the Peace, you still have the same rights and you are considered just as “married” either way.
My husband and I married in a banquet hall, and were married by a Justice of the Peace. We had “God” omitted from our ceremony, and had beautiful vows and a wonderful ceremony anyway. We are not religious people, therefore we did not want a religious ceremony or wedding.
Marriage is NOT a religious thing, despite what many religious fanatics will tell you. You can make your marriage about God and religion if you want to, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a religious concept. Marriage is a beautiful thing, and the uniting of two lives — with or without God being involved.
Good luck!
